THE FOUNDER OF LAB BAR AND THE CREATOR OF THE PORNSTAR MARTINI

LAB bar was founded in London in 1999 to create amazing cocktails and inspire and empower a new and diverse generation of young bartenders. Douglas and Colin Appiah launched LAB Cape Town in September 2001, which helped ignite the modern cocktail bar scene in the city. The first manager of Lab was Kurt Schlechter, who is now one of the patriarchs of the South African bar scene, and with whom we are collaborating on Ajabu. Cape Town was Douglas’ inspiration for the Porn Star Martini, initially called the Mavericks Martini. It’s now a modern classic. As a dedication to Douglas’ maverick spirit, all the bars included in the popups will create their own interpretation of a Porn Star Martini. Thus the spirit of LAB continues, as Douglas wanted.
